Who knows of trails that are hikable this year? The winter floods have closed many trails. Calling the Mt Rainier NP has not helped.

I am building an 83 acre eco-farm/art-farm in Mexico now...(Near Patzcuaro, Michoacan.)
It is truly amazing to hear all the birds in the day and night... to be surrounded by trees all the time.

Let me know if you might want to visit, or would like to be kept up to date... What do you have to offer to co-create this space? People into art, plants, permaculture and creative living are especially welcome... No creeps or flakes. :)

I've just created a new tribe for those of us who love being on a river and in the water. It's called One the River. Come join us; and for those in the bay area and keep our eyes out for a post about an inner tubing trip I intend to host in August.

veggie power aPHRODESIA @ ELBO ROOM THIS FRIDAY

Aphrodesia’s “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” Friday, March 11 at the Elbo Room, San Francisco

Aphrodesia, the explosive San Francisco-based afrobeat ensemble that made national headlines last summer by driving cross country in a vegetable oil-powered bus as part of the “Just Vote Tour”, will headline a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” on March 11 at the Elbo Room in San Francisco. All the band’s proceeds from the show will go towards its new vegetable oil powered bus, a converted city transit bus from Santa Clarita, California.

Born in San Francisco a little over two years ago, the 11-member Aphrodesia has won national accolades both for its music and its commitment to social activism. The East Bay Express picked the band’s first CD, “Shackrobeat Vol. 1”, as one of its top albums of 2003, and the band’s live performances have earned raves everywhere from the pages of Global Rhythm Magazine to Jambase.com. Meanwhile, the band’s “Just Vote Tour”, a nationwide voter registration-themed tour focusing primarily on swing states and landing in New York City during the Republican National Convention, deposited the band on the cover of USA Today, and the Bay Area-based Common Ground Magazine featured the band on its cover because of its commitment to driving on alternative fuel.

The band’s habit of driving in a vegetable oil-powered vehicle is more than just window dressing. “We want to walk the walk as well as talk the talk,” explains founder and bassist Ezra Gale. “We can’t be anti-war and pro-environment and drive around in a big petroleum-fueled tour bus,” he adds.

Aphrodesia’s old bus, a converted airport shuttle bus nicknamed the “Votemobile” for the cross-country ‘Just Vote Tour’, carried the band at least 10,000 miles solely on vegetable oil. The band plans to continue that tradition in its new bus, which is equipped with 300-gallon vegetable oil tanks and is considerably better suited to carrying a band of Aphrodesia’s size. To help pay the costs of the new bus and of converting it to run on vegetable oil, the band is throwing a “Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” at the Elbo Room on March 11, with all proceeds going towards the cost of the new bus.

“Veggie Oil Power Fundraiser” featuring Aphrodesia with DJ Oaty Love, Friday, March 11, at the Elbo Room, 647 Valencia,, SF, (415) 552-7788, 10PM- 2 AM; $7-$20 donation requested.

in the rain..snow..been anywhere cool lately?

the redwoods have a way of drawing clouds to them, like sand to the oceans. ...old spirits, insisting to the clouds, pulling water, from the sky, when then clouds cross, rain is drawn down the sides in rivulets..transforming the forest alive with sound, movement, life joyous in the cycle. Small streams re-emerging....ancient river beds forgotten since the spring. The trees! tall extending in breathtaking sweeps across the sky, spinning, dancing with the wind, wild terrible in size. Then quiet...the mists rise again

So Eileen and I have decided to have our first trip the first weekend of October. We know it is the weekend of Love Parade but if you want to get out of the city and avoid the chaos then come with us!
So we need to know how many people want to come, and if anyone has any suggestions for spots. we were looking at Collins Lake but a place in the redwoods would be a bit nicer, so suggestions welcome!!
we need to be sure who's going to be coming, we might cap the total of people as not to have a complete Burning Man rebirth. So if you are serious, serious folks only need to apply, please contact me or Eileen or post to this tribe.
This is going to be great fun and an amazing chance to meet new people and experience a whole new world (which is nice b/c it's any world of your choosing!)
so let's get this show on the road . . .

Being from the mountains and forests, always trippin in the woods, I find it very fun and quite stimulating to go have adventures in the deserts. At this point in my life, I still favor the forest setting.

What do all of you on the board prefer?

ok so palinor & i were talking about doing a camping trip in september... does anyone know of any cool spots in california? my ideal would be in the forest by a river, somewhere where we can play in the water if it's not too cold.

I have a good friend in the LA area and plan to visit there around the end of the year. We would like to have a little journey together out in nature (at night), but he says that despite years of searching, he doesn't know a place around there that is safe and secure and unlikely to be disturbed by other people. Any suggestions?

Nature is everywhere, there is no escaping it or need to seek it out.
Embrace all nature, not just the most ideal aspects of nature that one can envision.
In other words trip and be comfortable anywhere and everywhere. Embrace the place and energies...it's natural.

we have reached some kind of decision, Khandro as another goddess in chage your opinion is needed on this. So my friend Eileenand I have decided to put off our first trip until Sept. Life is chaos for all of us before then , Burning Man, international travel, and just life has gotten in the way of making ourn trip happen with out strees. Sooooo we think Sept. will be perfect and we were also thinking of up by mendocino where we can be in trees and water and making it a weekend thing so there is enought time for us all to gether together with no stress. we will probably pick a date and post it but group information is also needed. This is a community event and we want all to be involved. sp post a listing if you are serious about ngoing and have useful info (sorry to be a bitch, just want this to be beautiful and fun ya know??)

ok, so getting people together is turning out to be a bit like herding cats, lts of movement going nowhere. So, who is really serious about taking our first little adventure?? Us serious ones will make all the plans, post it and who wants to come will come. Once we get the ball rolling this can be a regular thing, it will be wonderful when the weather gets warmer, we can ever do a weekend at a hot spring or something. I am open to all ideas.
